Poland: Farmers to demonstrate in central Poznan May 8

Farmers to protest, march in central Poznan, Poland, from 09:00 May 8. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Farmers plan to protest in central Poznan between the hours of 09:00-11:00 May 8. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce EU-level environmental regulations. Participants will first block two lanes of Roosevelt Street (Ulica Roosevelta) before marching to the Greater Poland Voivodeship Office (Wielkopolski Urzad Wojewodzki) on Niepodleglosci for a rally. It is unclear how many participants may attend.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest sites. Participants will likely drive tractors into the city for the demonstration; transport disruptions are likely on key roadways into Poznan in the early morning and out of the city in the afternoon. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the protest sites as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the demonstration sites in the morning or afternoon, or on highways into Poznan in the early morning or out of Poznan in the afternoon. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
