Event

A shooting incident by La Cabana restaurant in the Caleta beach area of Acapulco, Guerrero State, killed two people and injured at least four April 3. At approximately 18:00, two armed individuals exited a vehicle and shot at a man before driving off; reports suggest that some of the people shot were tourists. Authorities are at the scene, investigating the incident. The motivation for the incident is not immediately clear, but reports suggest it was a targeted attack involving a criminal group.

Context

Acapulco has an extremely high murder rate, with over 110 people per 100,000 murdered annually. As such, it has one of the highest murder rates not only in Mexico but worldwide. Violence in Acapulco is often tied to the presence of drug-trafficking organizations (DTOs).
