Event

The US embassy warned of roadblocks being erected across parts of Guanajuato amid police operations in the municipality of Celaya on Saturday, June 20. The warning came after police arrested at least 26 alleged members of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel across the municipality on Saturday. Members of the cartel reportedly retaliated by damaging property and causing local unrest in an apparent attempt to disrupt law enforcement operations. During the operations, police seized a number of firearms, ammunition, and vehicles. The Embassy also reported roadblocks in the municipalities of Apaseo el Alto, Apaseo el Grande, Cortázar, Dolores Hidalgo, Juventino Rosas, Salvatierra, San Jose Iturbide, and Tarimoro. Gunfire was also reported in San Luis de la Paz municipality. The police operations come amid a reported increase in violent crime within the municipality, including the murder of seven people in their home in Campo Azul on Thursday, June 18.

Heightened security measures are expected in the area over the near term.
