Gunmen killed seven police officers in an alleged ambush near Tetipac (Guerrero state) on Sunday, June 21. The police were carrying out surveillance work between El Gavilán and San Gregorio on the Tetipac-Taxco highway when the attack took place. A further five officers were injured in the attack. It is not clear who was responsible for the attack as of Monday, June 22.

A heightened security presence is anticipated in the region over the coming days, as well as an increase in police operations. Similar attacks targeting security forces are also possible in the near term
