Indian security forces engaged several suspected militants in the Sugoo area of Shopian district (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on Wednesday morning (local time), June 10, following a cordon and search operation. Police officials reported that five militants were killed following a prolonged gunfight.

This was the third operation to take place in Shopian over the past four days, with the first taking in Reban village on Sunday, June 7, during which five militants were killed. On Monday, June 8, four militants were killed in a gunfight in the Pinjora area of Shopian district (Jammu and Kashmir territory).

Further clashes between security forces and militants in Shopian district and across Jammu and Kashmir territory are expected over the near term.
