Winter storm to hit French Atlantic coast on January 29-30; transportation disruptions expected

According to weather officials, winter storm Gabriel is forecast to hit France's Atlantic coast on the afternoon (local time) of Tuesday, January 29. The storm is expected to bring winds of up to 130 km/h (80 mph) and heavy snowfalls in Normandy, Brittany, Pays de la Loire, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Vendée, Charente-Maritime, Gironde, and Landes departments are expected to be particularly affected. According to forecasts, the storm will move inland in Centre-Val de Loire and Ile-de-France overnight on January 29-30. Related air and rail disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible.
