Belgium, France: Activists to demonstrate in Brussels and Paris, April 27 /update 1

Political activists to protest in central Brussels, Belgium, and Paris, France, April 27. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Kurdish political activists plan to protest in central Brussels and Paris on April 27. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce recent police raids on Kurdish media outlets in Belgium and the perceived administrative repression of the Kurdish community in France. It is unclear how many participants may attend. Participants will conduct the following protests:

  • Brussels: Palace of Justice (Justitiepaleis/Palais de la Justice) on Poelaertplein/Place Poelaert from 13:00.

  • Paris: Place de la Republique from 14:00.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest sites. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
