Second deadly explosion in less than a week hits Oruro, Bolivia, on February 13

An explosion occurred in the city of Oruro on Tuesday, February 13, around 18:40 (local time), killing four people and injuring another ten. Three people have been detained in connection with the explosion, which occurred on Rajka Backovic Street.

This incident comes on the heels of another explosion that hit the city on February 10, during carnival celebrations. A street vendor’s gas canister exploded near the carnival route, killing eight and wounding some 50 others. The incident was believed to have been an accident. 

According to the police, the characteristics of the two explosions appear different, but they are not ruling out the possibility that they are connected. An investigation is ongoing.
