Dutch police assert there is no reason to suspect terror motive in December 14 Maastricht stabbings; one person arrested in connection with the attacks, which killed two people and wounded three others

As of early Friday, December 15 (local time), Limburg provincial police have arrested one person in connection with two stabbing incidents in Maastricht which killed two people and wounded three others on Thursday, December 14. According to police, the first stabbing incident took place on Joseph Postmes Street at roughly 21:00 on Thursday, killing one person. The second stabbing incident took place nearby on Botsaart Street around 21:10; one person was killed and two others were wounded. A third wounded person suspected to have been stabbed by the assailant was later found in a nearby mosque.

Although a related investigation is still ongoing in the area of the attacks as of early Friday, the police have asserted that there is no reason to suspect a terror-related motive for the attacks.
