Bolivia: Doctor march in La Paz December 12 /update 1

Healthcare workers marching through city of La Paz on December 12 amid long-running strike; expect localized traffic disruptions

Doctors and other medical professionals are currently holding a protest march in the city of La Paz that started at 10:00 (local time) on Tuesday, December 12. Demonstrators are expected to block streets around the Plaza del Estudiantie, Puente de las Americas, Avenida Saavedra, Plaza Triangular, and Calle 17 de Obrajes. Protesters will also gather outside the Hospital del Norte in El Alto. Significant traffic disruptions along the march route are likely. Clashes and low-level violence are possible.

The march is taking place amid an indefinite strike by doctors, launched on November 23. Negotiations between the government and the doctors were set to resume on Tuesday afternoon.
