France: Hop! Air France pilot strike July 13-18 /update 2

Hop! Air France pilot strike to take place July 13-18; anticipate service disruptions and confirm flight statuses

Warning

Event

A pilot strike organized by the National Syndicate of Airline Pilots (SPNL) at the airline Hop!, a subsidiary of Air France, will take place from Thursday, July 13, through Tuesday, July 18. Associated disruptions are expected to be limited to regional flights operated by Hop!. Neither domestic nor international  flights operated by Air France or a partner company (e.g., Delta, KLM) will be affected.
Although delays and cancelations are expected, affected passengers will be directly informed via phone or email (provided their contact information is up to date on Air France or Hop! Websites). Passengers affected by the strike will be allowed to seek reimbursement or reschedule their flight until July 27.

Context

The strike was initially set to take place July 3-8 to coincide with the beginning of the traditional summer holidays, a busy travel period in France. The decision to delay the strike was made following intense discussions between the pilot union and airline management.

The union is demanding a clearer definition of Hop! activities and better working conditions, among other things. Negotiations between the union and airline management have been ongoing since September 2016.

Advice

Travelers are advised to update their contact information (email and phone details) on Hop! or Air France websites to ensure they receive notifications, and to contact the airline directly for further details. More information can be found on the Hop! website.
