Bolivia: Winter storms cause delays in La Paz May 30

A snow storm in La Paz causes delays to domestic flights on May 30; additional disruptions possible through June 1

Warning

Event

On Monday, May 29, the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) issued an orange alert for La Paz, Santa Cruz, Beni, and Tarija due to a cold front moving through the area. The alert is in effect until Thursday, June 1. Freezing conditions and snowfall on Tuesday, May 30, caused delays to some local flights leaving El Alto International Airport (LPB) between 08:00 and 08:40 (local time). Authorities also warned drivers of hazardous road conditions in the Yungas area due to fog and snow. Additional transportation delays may occur in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious when driving or walking in snowy/icy conditions (pedestrians are advised to walk far from roadsides), confirm flight reservations, adhere to any advice issued by the local authorities, and keep abreast of the situation via weather forecasts.
