Summary
Authorities in Dominica are likely to continue enforcing entry requirements and protocols for all arriving travelers through at least October, as part of continued efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). All travelers must complete an online health questionnaire by Dominican authorities 24 hours before entering the island. Regardless of country of origin risk level, all passengers will be subject to a Rapid Diagnostic Test upon arrival. Individuals are also required to wear a facemask while at the airport. Other entry requirements, and disembarkation and quarantine protocols vary depending on the country of origin risk level:
Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Travel Bubble: After clearance, travelers may leave the airport, but must submit to scheduled and unscheduled checks by medical professionals.
Low-risk Countries: Travelers must present a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result recorded within 24-72 hours prior to arrival in Dominica. After clearance at the airport, travelers must submit to scheduled and unscheduled checks by medical professionals and will be monitored for seven days at their place of residence.
Medium-risk Countries: Travelers must present a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result recorded within 24-72 hours prior to arrival in Dominica. After clearance at the airport, travelers must submit to scheduled and unscheduled checks by medical professionals. Travelers will be monitored for 14 days at their place of residence, with the option of taking a PCR test five days after arrival; a negative test result generally ends the monitoring period.
High-risk Countries: Travelers must present a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result recorded within 24-72 hours prior to arrival in Dominica. After clearance at the airport, travelers must quarantine at a government facility or certified hotel for at least five days, even if a negative test result has been presented. A PCR test will be administered to the traveler five days after arrival; if the test result is negative, the traveler will be deemed medically cleared at the discretion of medical officials.
Travelers that do not clear the Rapid Diagnostic Test upon arrival will be subject to additional health screenings and mandatory quarantine measures at the expense of the traveler.
The status of country-risk classifications is subject to change at short notice. Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any entry requirements with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with a disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
