In an interview with Condé Nast Traveler, WorldAware discusses where COVID-19 is most impacting global air travel. Middle Eastern airspace, specifically, Persian Gulf airspace is typically congested with wide-body planes serving three major hub airports connecting to Europe, Asia and Australia. It is currently experiencing the most drastic reduction of air traffic across the globe. The result: almost-empty airspace, with fewer than 50 planes in the sky at any given time, according to WorldAware. Compared to a year earlier, that is around 300 fewer aircraft.
