Demonstrations in Hong Kong escalated from Nov. 11 following the first confirmed death of a protester. Activists have disrupted ground transport to put economic pressure on the government. Violent incidents, including attacks on bystanders who criticize protest methods or take photos at demonstrations, have also occurred. While recent protests have been concentrated on university campuses, disruptions have occurred at locations throughout Hong Kong. Many foreign students have evacuated following the early closure of classes at major universities.  A political solution at this current state is unlikely, and protests are likely to continue. Organizations and individuals in Hong Kong should remain aware of key trigger points which may lead to further escalations.
