WorldAware employees recently participated in the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge and raised $8,970 for the Special Olympics of Maryland.

Freezin' for a Reason

In 2016, Troy Heffern, WorldAware’s Director of Operations Engineering, started rallying colleagues to support and participate in the Maryland Polar Bear Plunge. The annual event aims to raise money to help provide year-round sports and leadership programs for over 8,033 athletes of Special Olympics Maryland. Over the past 4 years, WorldAware has raised more than $32,000 for the cause.

Despite the cold temperatures, Heffern and colleagues ran into the chilly waters of the Chesapeake Bay. “It’s really incredible to see people from all over the organization come together for this cause and get to know those you wouldn’t normally interact with on a daily basis. It’s a great team-building experience,” says Troy Heffern. In total, over 130 people donated to Team One WorldAware and 14 brave people “took the plunge.”
