In October 2019, the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee released its final report into the Lion Air crash. Boeing continues to address the faulty Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System sensors but concerns remain.

Haiti: Anti-government Protests and Unrest Continue Nationwide

Haiti’s economic crisis has been the driving force behind violent protests that have taken place across the country for much of 2019. Since taking power in 2017, President Jovenel Moïse has faced opposition protests over government corruption and severe economic conditions. Worsening living conditions for Haitians, coupled with the perceived impunity of corrupt government officials, has led to a climate of heightened government anti-sentiment and increased security threats.

In the worst single day of violence since the Sri Lankan Civil War ended, at least 321 people were killed and another 500 were wounded as a result of coordinated bombings of 8 locations. Suspected Attacks on Oil Tankers in the Gulf of Oman

The attack of 6 oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on June 13 raised concerns about escalating tensions in the region. Between the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf is the Strait of Hormuz - the only sea passageway from the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean. Approximately 40% of the seaborne oil crude is transited through the Strait of Hormuz. Insecurity in this key waterway would have a direct impact on the global supply of oil and disrupt shipping operations.

China Travel Advisory

Amid increased economic political and economic tensions between the US and China, the US State Department issued a new travel advisory for China in January 2019. Many countries and organizations expressed concerns over the new advisory, however very little was changed from the previous advisory issued in early 2018. Nevertheless, the advisory brought attention to organizations with operations in the country.
