Several political parties plan to hold protests at locations throughout Jharkhand State Feb. 25-March 1 to denounce rising fuel costs. The Jharkhand branch of the Indian National Congress (INC) will demonstrate in each of the state's 24 districts on Feb. 25. INC leaders have also called for torchlight processions in district headquarters on Feb. 26. Separately, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which governs Jharkhand in a coalition that includes the INC, has called for protests in district headquarters statewide on Feb. 28 and March 1. Participants will most likely gather near party offices, government buildings, and gas stations during the various rallies. Participation in the events could vary between several dozen and several hundred people.

Security personnel will probably deploy to monitor protests. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are unlikely, though minor skirmishes cannot be ruled out. Violent confrontations between supporters of rival political parties are also possible. Protesters may block or march along sections of roadways, causing localized transport disruptions.

Avoid all protests due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Follow the instructions of local security personnel. Allow additional to reach destinations in the vicinity of any demonstrations.
