Activists to protest outside Military Tribunal Court in Beirut, Lebanon Feb. 24. Increased security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Activists plan to protest outside of the Military Tribunal Court in Beirut starting at 1100 Feb. 24. The purpose of the gathering is to demand the release of individuals arrested during anti-government demonstrations in Tripoli in January. In previous similar demonstrations, protesters blocked roads near the court and clashed with security forces. The demonstration will likely be well attended.

Authorities will almost certainly increase security to monitor the protest. Localized transport disruptions are likely. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid the protest due to the potential for clashes. Heed the advice of security personnel and leave the area immediately at the first sign of any confrontation. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the affected area, Feb. 24.
