Activists affiliated with the People's Democratic Congress (HDK) and People's Democratic Party (HDP) plan to protest in central Istanbul, Feb. 24. Participants will gather at 1800 at the Earthquake Monument in the Avcilar District. Several hundred people could attend.

Police will likely deploy to monitor the event and associated security measures could prompt localized disruptions, particularly on Marmara and Namik Kemal streets. While the event will probably remain mostly peaceful, isolated scuffles between police and protesters are possible.

Avoid the demonstration as a routine security precaution and to minimize the possibility of related disruptions. Allow extra time for travel near Marmara Street. Heed the instructions of local security personnel and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
