Vietnam: COVID-19-related business and gathering restrictions imposed in Hai Phong from Feb. 22

Authorities in Hai Phong, Vietnam, impose COVID-19 business and gathering restrictions from Feb. 22. Additional measures possible.

Warning

Event

Officials in Hai Phong have initiated business and gathering restrictions following the confirmation of COVID-19 cases in the municipality. From Feb. 22 until further notice, gatherings throughout Hai Phong are limited to ten people or fewer. Residents are required to avoid nonessential movement from 2200 nightly. Authorities have also ordered certain types of nonessential establishments to close, including bars, cinemas, and sports facilities. Educational institutions are closed until further notice. Officials are discouraging nonessential domestic travel. Additional controls could be imposed in the coming days.

Authorities have imposed stricter measures in neighborhoods that have significant COVID-19 activity. Residents of specified areas are required to remain inside their homes unless leaving for essential purposes, such as purchasing food or seeking medical care. As of late Feb. 22, such restrictions are in place in parts of Hoang Dong Commune, Du Hang Ward, and Kim Son Village. Localized movement restrictions will remain in force until at least March 8. Similar measures could be applied to other parts of Hai Phong at short notice.

Screening checkpoints have been set up on roads and at transport hubs throughout Hai Phong. Authorities will probably maintain a heightened security posture for the duration of the restrictions. Movement controls and increased security measures will likely prompt transport and business disruptions.
