Police forcibly disperse nationwide anti-government protests on September 25; avoid all demonstrations as a precaution
Event
Anti-government demonstrations continued nationwide on Friday, September 25, for a sixth consecutive day to protest against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Security forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters. Demonstrators in Damietta reportedly threw stones at police vehicles. Unconfirmed media sources suggest that at least one protester was killed in al-Ayyat town, south of Giza province, after security forces fired live bullets in efforts to disperse the crowds. Sources also indicate that police arrested scores of demonstrators. Video imagery on social media outlets indicate that the dubbed 'Friday of Anger' rallies were reported in the following locations:
- Giza province: Al-Atf, Al-Moneib, Al-Mansouria, Al-Bilayda village, Al-Koneisa, Al-Haram, Tamwah, Abu Negm, 6th District, 6 October, Al-Ayyat, and Al-Shobak al-Sharky
- Al-Minya province: Tala, Qalandoul, Gabal al-Teir, Samalut, Rida, and Bani Mazar
- Damietta province: Meit Abu Ghaleb, Shatta

- Qalyoubia province: Shubra al-Kheimah

Further associated demonstrations are possible in the near term. A heightened security presence and associated disruptions should be anticipated at all protests.
Context
The protests, which began on Sunday, September 20, were reportedly called for by Egyptian entrepreneur Mohamed Ali, currently in exile in Spain. September 20 marks the first anniversary of similar anti-government protests in September 2019, which followed Mohamed's revelations about President Sisi's alleged corruption.
Advice
Those in Egypt are advised to avoid any protests as a precaution, monitor the situation, allow ample travel time, and obey instructions issued by local authorities.
