A gunmen shot and wounded two policemen during a security incident in Auckland's Massey neighbourhood on Friday morning, June 19. The incident occurred after police reportedly performed a routine traffic stop, when the assailant then opened fire on the officers and fled, hitting a civilian in the process. Search operations are underway for the perpetrator. Police spokespeople have advised the public to avoid the area, and schools have been placed in lockdown out of precaution. 

A heightened security presence should be anticipated in Auckland in the immediate term.
