Thailand: Weather warnings issued for Upper Thailand May 11-13

The Thai Meteorological Department issues weather warning due to thunderstorms forecast across Upper Thailand May 11-13; associated disruptions possible

Warning

Event

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning due to thunderstorms forecast across Upper Thailand from Monday, May 11, through Wednesday, May 13. A high-pressure system is expected to cause summer storms which could affected many areas across the North, Northeast, East, and Central regions. The storms are forecast to bring strong winds, lightning strikes, and possibly hail in some areas. Officials have warned residents of these areas to stay indoors and take shelter from the storm due to the risk of falling trees and unsecured buildings. Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible over the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
