Suspected Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) militants killed six people in multiple attacks in Djugu territory and Mahagi territory (Ituri province) on Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10. The suspected militants reportedly burned down several residential houses and destroyed shops during the raids. At least three civilians were wounded in the incidents, and livestock was also reportedly stolen.

Similar militant attacks are possible in the region over the near term.

Context

The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.
