Philippines: Tropical Depression Ambo to reach Philippines May 12

Tropical Depression Ambo to reach Philippines on May 12; heavy rain, storm surge, and lingering associated disruptions expected

Warning

Event

On Monday, May 11, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that Tropical Depression Ambo will reach the Philippines on Tuesday, May 12. The storm system is moving westward toward Mindanao and could hit Luzon and Manila later in the week.

Moderate to heavy rains, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas are expected, though PAGASA has stated that the depression is unlikely to intensify into a tropical cyclone over the next 24 hours.

Advice

Individuals in the Philippines are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, confirm flight reservations, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
