Islamic Human Rights Commission plans Al-Quds Day rally in London on June 2; heightened security presence and counter-demonstration expected

The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) is planning to hold annual Al-Quds Day events in London on Sunday, June 2. A rally is scheduled to start at 15:00 (local time) outside of the Home Office on 2 Marsham Street. IHRC leaders have warned supporters that flying the Hezbollah flag at the event may result in arrest since the UK government designated the group as a terrorist organization in February 2019. Context
Al-Quds Day was initiated by Iran in 1979 in opposition to Israel’s Jerusalem Day. Iran sponsors Al-Quds Day rallies and protests in both Muslim-majority and non-Muslim-majority countries. It falls every year on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.
