A man armed with two knives reportedly started stabbing school children and other people waiting at a bus stop near the Noborito railway station at approximately 07:45 (local time). At least 16 people were taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the attack, including a child and man who later died from their wounds. The suspected attacker reportedly stabbed himself before being detained by the police and later died in the hospital. No motive for the attack has been confirmed and an investigation is ongoing.
