Warning

Event

Heavy rain and consequent flooding have hit the capital Accra on Monday, May 20, killing two people in the Adabraka area. Material damages were also reported across the capital, notably in the terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport (ACC), which was damaged by the rainfall. Flooding was reported in Okponglo Legon, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Avenor, Alajo, and Kaneshie areas. Further rainfall and associated disruptions, including transportation disruptions, are likely in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions prior to setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. It is important to note that that walking or driving through floodwaters can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
