Guinea: Deadly flooding kills at least four in Conakry May 17-18

Parts of the capital city Conakry were hit by significant flooding on Friday, May 17, through Saturday, May 18, following heavy rain in the area. According to local media reports, the Matoto municipality was the most affected by the flooding. Police officials have confirmed that at least four people were killed as of Sunday, May 19, and an unconfirmed number of people were injured. Homes and other buildings were washed away by the rain and recovery efforts are ongoing. A security cordon has also been put in place around the affected areas.

Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwaters may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with floodwaters should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
