Rideshare drivers announce strike in major cities May 8; major traffic disruptions possible

Rideshare drivers announced a strike in major cities during the morning (local time) commute on Wednesday, May 8, to protest business and payment practices of ridesharing companies. The strike by Uber and Lyft drivers is slated to take place between 07:00-09:00. Strikes have been announced in Chicago (Illinois state), Los Angeles (California state), San Francisco (California state), New York (New York state), and Washington, DC, among other cities. Drivers also plan to rally at the offices of Uber and Lyft in San Francisco at 13:00 on Wednesday.

Transportation disruptions, including increased demand for taxis, are likely nationwide. Associated protests are also possible.
