US: Suspect found dead near Mount Evans (Colorado) after manhunt April 17 /update 1

The suspect at the center of a nearly 24-hour manhunt in response to reported threats against Colorado schools was found dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound near the base of Mount Evans (Colorado state), west of Denver, on Wednesday, April 17. Sol Pais, an 18-year-old woman from Surfside (Florida state), flew from Florida state to Colorado state on Monday, April 15, and allegedly made "credible threats" to Denver-area schools, according to law enforcement sources, prompting the closure of some 150 schools and districts along Colorado's Front Range on Wednesday; she was reportedly inspired by the 1999 Columbine High School massacre - the 20th anniversary of which will be marked on Saturday, April 20. There is no longer a related, extant threat to the Denver area, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Jefferson county school officials have announced that events marking the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre, including a ceremony at Columbine High School, are slated to be held as scheduled on the weekend of April 20-21. A heightened security presence is to be expected around related gatherings.

Context

On April 20, 1999, two individuals killed 12 students and a teacher at Columbine High School in Colorado. Local police officials said that they have received previous threats involving the school or references to the shooting in the past.
