Kenya: Demonstrations planned in Nairobi March 8

Civil society groups have announced two demonstrations to be held in Nairobi on Friday, March 8. A march against perceived government corruption and a second march in support of women's rights are slated to begin at 08:00 (local time) at Freedom Corner in Uhuru Park. While the route of the demonstration has not been released, protesters are likely to march down Kenyatta Avenue and rally at popular gathering points. Organizers claim more than 100,000 people are expected to attend the anti-corruption march. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are likely near demonstration sites. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.
