On Wednesday, March 5, weather officials issued orange weather alerts (the second-highest on a four-tier scale) for strong winds, heavy rains, and strong waves (up to 9 meters high) in most coastal regions in northern and central Portugal, including Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisboa, Porto, and Viana do Castelo. According to the European National Meteorological Services (meteoalarm), the alerts will be in effect through Thursday, March 7.
