Pakistan: Flooding kills at least 13 people in Balochistan March 1-5

Heavy rain and snow cause flooding across Balochistan province, resulting in at least 13 deaths as of March 5

Torrential rain and heavy snow hit Balochistan province from Friday, March 1 to Tuesday, March 5, causing deadly flash flooding. At least 13 people people were killed and 12 others were injured throughout the province as of Tuesday, March 5. Significant material damages have been reported, including to houses, businesses, bridges, and roads. Emergency workers have been deployed to the area to carryout rescue operations in the affected areas. Lingering transportation and business disruptions are to be expected in Balochistan province over the coming days.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, obey instructions issued by the local authorities, and avoid flood-prone areas until the situation stabilizes. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
