Australia: Extreme heatwave conditions in south through Jan. 24

On Wednesday, January 23, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology forecasts temperatures up to 45°C (113°F) to affect the Adelaide region on Thursday, January 24, following three days of extreme heat in the South. Temperatures are expected to reach 40°C (°F) on January 23. Meanwhile, in the southern island of Tasmania, emergency warnings have been issued for six areas of the central region, as dozens of fires are reportedly burning across the state. Further winds and high temperatures are expected in the area in the coming days.

Individuals in Australia are advised to follow local weather reports, stay well-hydrated (drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day and avoid alcohol), and avoid spending time in direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day (generally from noon to 16:00).
