Egypt: Heightened security expected ahead of Arab Spring anniversary Jan. 25

Authorities prepare to deploy additional security personnel to public squares and gathering places ahead of January 25 anniversary of the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak; business and transportation disruptions possible

Business and transportation disruptions, along with a heightened security presence, are expected in Egypt on Friday, January 25, the eighth anniversary of the removal of former President Hosni Mubarak. Additional security forces are expected to be deployed in public squares and near government buildings and localized transportation disruptions are possible. Increased security operations are also possible in the coming days. The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) also announced that banks would close on Friday in honor of the anniversary. Other business disruptions are possible.
