US: Winter storm to hit Milwaukee, Chicago January 22-23

The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued winter storm warnings and advisories for areas of the northern Midwest and Great Lakes region effective Tuesday, January 22, and Wednesday, January 23. Mixed precipitation, including freezing rain and snowfall of up to 22 cm (9 in), is expected across eastern Iowa and southern Wisconsin, including the cities of Madison and Milwaukee. Areas to the south, including the Chicago metropolitan area, are expected to receive 5-12.5 cm (2-5 in) of snow along with freezing rain. The storm is expected to last until Wednesday morning (local time).

Transportation disruptions are expected in the abovementioned areas, including adverse driving conditions due to icy roads and flight delays and cancelations. At least 200 flights have been canceled at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) as of 11:00 on Tuesday and further disruptions are likely at ORD, Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), Milwuakee's General Mitchell International Airport (MKE), and other airports in the area.
