A large winter storm is forecast to bring heavy snow and winds to large portions of the Midwest and Northeast, including the cities of Chicago (Illinois), St. Louis (Missouri), Milwaukee (Wisconsin), Cleveland (Ohio), Pittsburgh, northern suburbs of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), northern suburbs of Washington, DC, New York (New York), and Boston (Massachusetts), from Saturday, January 19, to Monday, January 21. Snowfall totals range from 5-15 cm (3-6 in) in the southern areas of the weather system, such as New York City, to more than 50 cm (20 in) in upstate New York and New England. The storm is expected to bring cold temperatures, resulting in rapid freezing and a wintry mix (e.g. rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow) preceding snowfall in the southern areas of the affected region. Adverse driving conditions, including icy road surfaces, heavy snow, and extremely limited visibility, are likely. Flight disruptions are also possible along with power and telecommunication disruptions.
