US: Winter storms warnings issued for Midwest, Appalachians Nov. 14-15

The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning for areas of the Midwest and Appalachians, particularly western North Carolina and southwestern Virginia, beginning Wednesday, November 14. Areas of the St. Louis (Missouri) metropolitan areas and surrounding counties are also under a winter storm warning from Wednesday evening (local time) through 18:00 on Thursday, November 15. Snowfall of 13-18 cm (5-7 in) is expected, mostly on Thursday morning. Transportation disruptions, including flight delays, are possible.
To the east, a winter storm warning is in effect from Asheville (North Carolina) to Roanoke (Virginia) from 19:00 Wednesday to 13:00 on Thursday. Freezing rain and sleet of up to 2.5 cm (1 in) is expected along with wind gusts of 30-55 km/h (20-35 mph) in higher elevations. Power, telecommunication, and transportation disruptions are possible. A winter storm watch is also in effect for the Appalachian region from southwestern Virginia north to western New York, where snowfall of (4-7 in) from Thursday morning to Friday, November 16.
