Italy: Storm alerts remain in effect in various regions November 5 /update 3

Severe storms and resultant flooding leave at least 29 dead across Italy as of November 4; storm alerts remain effect November 5 in various regions

Large swathes of Italy continue to remain under alerts for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and/or strong winds as of Monday, November 5. Orange alerts, the second-highest level, are in effect in the following regions: Basilicata, Calabria, Lazio (including the city of Rome), Lombardy, Piedmont, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily, Trentino Alto Adige, and Veneto.

Historic storms ongoing since late October have led to fatalities, material damages, and transportation disruptions across the country. As of November 4, at least 29 people had died since October 30, including 12 killed in flash floods on the island of Sicily overnight November 3-4. Further flooding, transportation disruptions, and power outages are possible.

Advice

Individuals in affected regions are advised to keep abreast of weather alerts, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
