Italy: Flooding leaves 29 dead as of November 4 /update 2

Large swathes of Italy continue to face historic storms as of early November, leading to fatalities, material damages, and transportation disruptions, with adverse weather forecast to continue in many parts of the country in the coming days. As of Sunday, November 4, at least 29 people have died nationwide since October 30, with the death toll rising sharply after 12 people were killed in flash floods on the island of Sicily overnight on November 3-4; ten of those killed died around Palermo and two more near Agrigento. On November 4, Italian authorities issued orange alerts (the second-highest on a four-tier scale, indicating hazardous weather conditions) for the regions of Veneto, Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio (including Rome), which will remain in effect through November 5. Transportation disruptions and power outages remain possible.
