Event

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of El Salvador at 16:23 (local time) on Sunday, October 28. The earthquake's epicenter was located 93 km (57 mi) southwest of Acajutla. The earthquake was also felt in neighboring Guatemala. As of Sunday evening, there have been no reports of major damage or casualties. Potentially powerful aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.

Earthquakes are common in El Salvador, which is located along the seismically active Pacific "Ring of Fire."
