The Nigerien Minister of Interior announced on Tuesday, October 16, that at least 30 "bandits" had been killed during a three-week security operation conducted by the Nigerien and Nigerian armies on the border between both countries, notably in the Nigerien Maradi region. According to the minister, others were taken prisoners and 12 bases were dismantled, adding that the border area is currently, as of October 16, under the control of local authorities.

Armed bandits are known to operate along the Niger-Nigeria border, conducting kidnappings for ransom, robbing traders, and stealing castle.
