Turkey: Flash flooding in Ordu province August 8 closes roads

Heavy rains caused flash flooding and landslides in Ordu province on Wednesday, August 8, closing roads and damaging buildings in the area. Among the areas most acutely affected were Fatsa and Ünye districts. At least four bridges over the Cevizdere Stream collapsed, stranding some 165 people awaiting who were awaiting evacuation as of Wednesday. It was not immediately announced when the required repairs would be completed and when affected roads would reopen to traffic.

More rainfall is forecast for Ordu in the coming hours and days. Further flooding and landslides, as well as associated transportation disruptions, are possible.

Individuals in Ordu province are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid traveling through flooded areas, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
