Uruguay: Severe wind alerts issued for southeast August 9

The Uruguayan meteorological institute INUMET has issued red wind alerts - the highest level - for the southeast, due to an extratropical cyclone located over Uruguayan waters. Lower orange and yellow alerts are in place for much of the rest of the country. As of 07:30 (local time) on Thursday, August 9, the red alerts were in place in parts of the departments of Maldonado and Rocha, where gusts surpassing 100 km/h (60 mph) are forecast. The orange alerts are in effect in all or parts of Canelones, Colonia, Florida, Lavalleja, Montevideo, and San José. Associated flight and ferry disruptions are likely.
