China: Smoking ban at public venues in Xi’an from November

New regulation bans smoking in all indoor public venues and some indoor venues in Xi’an from November 1

On August 7, authorities of Shaanxi province announced that a ban on smoking in all indoor public venues in the city of Xi’an would come into effect on November 1. A smoking ban would also be in effect in outdoor areas of some public places, for example at schools, stadiums, and health institutions. Individuals who defy the regulation face fines of 10 yuan (USD 1.50); venue owners who defy the regulation face fines of up to 1000 yuan.

Context

Xi'an, iconic tourist and cultural destination (e.g. home to the famous Terracotta Warriors), is the latest urban center to institute such a ban.
