At least 1229 homes have been destroyed, along with hundreds of other buildings. The fire forced thousands of residents in Shasta and Trinity counties to evacuate. Redding is forecast to experience extreme temperatures beginning on Monday, August 6, with highs staying above 38°C (100°F) and up to 42°C (107°F) until Monday, August 13. The hot and dry conditions, combined with high wind gusts seen in recent days, have contributed to the size and intensity of this conflagration and will continue to hamper efforts to stop the blaze.
