Highest-level fire alerts issued for Algarve and central Portugal June 20

Four areas in the southernmost region of Algarve - Monchique, Tavira, Alcoutim, and Castro Marim - have been placed on the highest fire warning level due to extremely dry conditions, high temperatures, and wind as of Tuesday, June 20. The rest of the region - Portimao, Silves, São Brás de Alportel, and Loulé - is on a high alert. Five other areas in central Portugal are also on high alert: Proença-a-Nova and Vila Velha de Rodao (Castelo Branco), Maçao (Santarem), and Gaviao and Nisa (Portalegre).

Individuals in the above areas are advised to monitor developments to the situation. In the event of fires, adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders).
