Among the most affected areas are Hainan, where recorded rainfall totals were around 5-10 cm (2-4 in) across much of the island after the storm made landfall on Tuesday, June 5. The storm also made landfall on the Chinese mainland in Xuwen county (Guangdong province). Flooding was reported in Tai Po (Hong Kong) on Wednesday; further heavy rainfall is expected to affect Hong Kong and Macau in the coming hours. Consequent flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas. Associated widespread transportation disruptions are also expected in the coming hours.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to confirm travel reservations, to keep abreast of weather forecasts, and to adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products.
